Optimising and securing the patient journey, streamlining and sharing information, improving protocols and operational modes, and benefiting from diagnostic assistance: digital tools and solutions are valuable aids for healthcare professionals. Recently, the Pasteur Clinic in Toulouse, a leading healthcare institution in the Haute-Garonne region, has adopted the anaesthesia consultation software from Bow Medical.
We spoke with Dr Ségolène Mrozek, an anaesthetist and ICU specialist, who explained the details of the Diane Poa software, its deployment across the clinic’s two anaesthesia departments, and the benefits for users and patient care quality.
In Search of Consensus
The clinic previously used anaesthesia consultation software that no longer fully satisfied all its users. In 2022, the anaesthesia teams considered digitising all operating theatres to ensure continuity between consultations and surgery.
“From this idea, the project was born to re-evaluate everything and take the opportunity to choose a new consultation software,” explains Dr Ségolène Mrozek. “We reviewed the top three market leaders. One small constraint we faced: the software had to reach a consensus! Indeed, our unique situation comes from the fact that we are 29 anaesthetists divided into two departments: one department is dedicated to general and interventional surgery with 13 anaesthetists, and the other is specialised in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, with 16 anaesthetists. The software, therefore, had to work for everyone!” After a period of discussion and reflection, the choice fell to Diane Poa. “We particularly appreciated its ergonomics. It’s more practical, intuitive, accessible from any station via a web browser, and offers semi-automatic handling of anticoagulant treatments. Its software is designed for anaesthetists, with features allowing for personalised anaesthesia consultations.”
Settings and Interoperability
Customised settings provided by Bow Medical allow anaesthetists to cater to all patient types. “Each team has its own specifics. The settings allowed us to take these differences into account and have a shared database between the two teams! In other words, if a patient is seen for the first time by one team and returns in the future for another procedure, their medical history is easily accessible. We have at our disposal a tool that facilitates real data sharing. In terms of care quality and fluidity, this is truly notable and appreciated by patients.” Today, the results are very positive, and all 29 anaesthetists appreciate the tool. “We’ve saved time, improved efficiency, and enhanced safety.”
At the same time, the clinic’s IT teams and Bow Medical worked together on the interoperability between the anaesthesia consultation software and the clinic’s patient record system, “Dopa-Soins”.
“These teams established two-way links, so the anaesthesia consultation is sent directly to our patient record software at the end of the consultation, along with the patient’s personalised instructions on treatment cessation and fasting. We can also easily access Diane-Cs from the patient records. Everything is quickly accessible with just a click!”
Deployment
Once the decision was made, implementation took two days in the presence of Bow Medical technicians, and adoption was very rapid. “It took us just a few days to get used to our new tool! Now, everyone personalises their space as they wish, with added tabs or shortcuts. In In the end, we have a common tool, but it’s entirely customisable! The technical groundwork also allowed us to retrieve the data recorded in the old software and integrate it into Diane Consult. This way, we retained our patient history!”
What’s next?
“The next step is the deployment of Diane Aims, which will enable the digitisation of anaesthesia records in the operating theatre,” concludes Dr Ségolène Mrozek.
